Go For IT! Attracting Girls to Technology

One of many informative talks from this year’s SXSW. The attracting girls to technology raises some very good points on why girls tend to shy away from technology. It also provides some great tips and possible solutions for what many of us can do to inspire and influence young girls to see the value and possibilities in technology.

Women’s Leadership Revival Tour coming to Toronto

Thanks to W2.0′er Jen Hunter of the Learning Catalyst for this info about an upcoming women and leadership event taking place April 2, 2008 in Toronto.

Organized by Margaret Wheatley of the Berkana Institute, the Women’s Leadership Revival Tour will gather women together in communities all over North America to participate in a full day of learning and development. The focus of these events is on how women’s leadership in our region and all over the world is vital to our communities, work environments and societies.

Jen Hunter is working with the Canadian organizers bringing the Revival to Toronto. The one-day event is scheduled for April 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at The Eglinton Grand, 400 Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto.

Toronto Girl Geek Dinner recap - virtual worlds are here to stay

I attended a very fun get together at the Toronto Girl Geek Dinner this past Wednesday, where blogger and online marketing guru Kate Trgovac of Reinvent Communications lead a lively discussion about virtual worlds.

Kate moderated a discussion about new users’ varying comfort levels in these spaces, since entering a 3D virtual world requires a bit of time investment to sort out some basic navigation skills, without which the whole experience can be frustrating and less than engaging. Some are also finding such open spaces, where anyone can approach you and start a conversation, somewhat intimidating. Read more »
